About Me

I hope you’re enjoying the website.

Hi! I’m Michael (Mike) Muscroft — an explorer of the Norfolk Broads National Park and the Norfolk Coast on my boat Sage as well as other travel destinations throughout the UK, finding some amazing places and people.

Come along for the journey with me and discover more about myself, boating, photography, wildlife and more…

Humble Beginnings

From my first taste of boating at 3yrs old on my father’s motorboat (Cindy) to being a member of the Mundesley Inshore Lifeboat crew, being on the water is one of my favourite loves.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”

Mahatma Gandhi

As I was ‘Let go’ due to my Occupational Asthma and MS, my working life as a Mustard Miller was cut short. Since that time I have managed to have 3 heart attacks, severe anxiety, depression, early-onset memory loss and deafness!

So every morning when I wake up, I say thank you to God. Seriously! I am thankful that He sees fit to make sure no matter what goes wrong with this feeble body, He’ll keep me alive until the allotted time when I can meet my lost loved ones again in paradise.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Therefore I have some free time in which I can indulge myself in my hobby’s. I have a well kitted workshop where I make things, repair things and on lots of occasions, I make a complete mess of it. So I start again and learn where it was that I went wrong and correct it until I get it right.

Then of course I have my photography. In my opinion there couldn’t be a more noble art form as to capture the world around us. So many genres of photography to experiment with and at some point in your pursuit you will truly find your shall we say, style. And it doesn’t have to be just one type of photography either, it could be several styles that you enjoy along with the choice of medium that you use, such as film, digital or video.

At the end of the day remember this, if it makes you happy and gives you real pleasure, then you keep doing it. Photography can be as easy or as hard as you make it, so take my advice and start simple. Little projects to get to grips with your camera and it’s limitations as well as your own. But most of all, stick at it!

Sage – that’s my boat, so named after my wife and daughter. She’s a 5 metre Yorkshire Pebble (Coble) made of GRP and I purchased her with one premise. To restore her to her former glory (including reinstalling a mast and sail), and to travel the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, taking pictures as I go. I also intend to navigate the Norfolk coastline that I fell in love with whilst being on the lifeboat at Mundesley and some of the other great waters of the British Isles.

You will see from my posts in the various category’s how the work is going, along with my ideas of how to bring her into the modern age. So I have stripped her back to the GRP hull and slowly (the British weather is my nemesis) I am refitting everything with new wooden floors and supports, new fittings throughout, new engine, new trailer and a complete custom wiring system.

I’ll leave it here for now, as I don’t want to bore you too much. So I wish you all well in your endeavours and that you stay safe and happy.

God bless.
